The Problem

Toshiba needed to add touchscreen capability to their laptops as a sales time order option.

The Challenge

To take the standard Toshiba laptop and add touchscreen capability without altering the look or general function of the laptop.

The Process

MotionTouch thoroughly researched the market to see if they could find an out of the box solution that could be adapted to Toshiba’s needs. They identified 4-Wire, a technology that is compact and works well with low power devices.

MotionTouch then needed to manufacture a miniaturised version of 4-Wire resistive touch technology and overcome challenges both in electronic design and in the manufacture of the touchscreen.

The Solution

MotionTouch’s highly qualified team of electronics engineers were able to adapt the 4-Wire technology to provide Toshiba with a touchscreen with fitting instructions that could be installed by Toshiba service centers worldwide in less than 1.5 hours.

Throughout the project MotionTouch worked alongside Toshiba’s engineers and accredited service partners to ensure the end product met their rigorous quality standards.

The Product

The technology can be fitted to any Toshiba laptop. The MotionTouch system comprises; a 1mm touchscreen (the thinnest touchscreen on the market), a micro-controller installed inside the PC and the MotionTouch software.

The MotionTouch screen uses resistive touch technology which meets the unique demands and criteria of the mobile environment. It is the least power demanding of the touchscreen technologies and offers durability and versatility whilst used with either finger or stylus.

The Outcome

MotionTouch were able to meet all of Toshiba’s requirements for the project by successfully creating the desired touchscreen solution.

The MotionTouch controller has been miniaturised to such a degree that it can fit into even the smallest laptop computer. This unique unrivalled technology enables touchscreen solutions that have never been possible before.
